Wedding Shoe Game Ultimate Guide (161+ Questions)
Wedding Shoe Game Questions the Ultimate Guide
Being a wedding photographer, I see a lot of weddings and wedding receptions. One popular trend that has popped up over the last few years, is something called the shoe game.
Easy enough to do, this fun game sets the stage for a lot of laughs and gets your guests into it. It's not super cheesy, and depending on the questions you ask can range from sweet and insightful, to hilarious or even downright dirty and divisive.
Just in case you don't know how it goes, or you want to get the most out of the experience. I’ve made a bit of a guide for my clients. Better shoe game = funnier moments, a better time, and better wedding photos all around!
How to:
Position two chairs, back to back so that the bride and groom can each have a seat on them. Often times this works well in the middle of the dance floor, or in front of the head table, somewhere where many of the guests can see. The bride and the groom each take off their shoes, and swap one so they each have one of their own and one of their partner’s. The DJ, MC or other host like the best man or maid of honour can then start to ask them a series of questions. In order to answer the questions, the bride and groom each lift a shoe, or sometimes both in order to cast their vote on the answer.
Wedding Game Tips
Make sure everyone can see, depending on the layout of the room give your guests permission to stand up in crowd around. A lot of the fun, is in the interaction and being able to see the struggles that the bride and groom have to answer the questions.
Should you be the only one reading this article?
Make it a surprise… If you are a bride and groom, and you're on this web page you'll notice there are over 160 shoe game questions below. Maybe you should send this link to your host as well, to choose the questions so that you don't have fair warning on which ones. Sometimes an unexpected question causes all the fun. Or choose more than you think you might need, so you don’t know the exact 15 questions that are coming down the pipe, that’s no fun!
Be prepared
Be prepared, or you can also open mic it. There is a huge list of questions below, but sometimes I have seen it opened up to the audience, for guests to ask. If that's the case the MC can run around, and take the mic to people who want to ask their own often saucy questions. You might want the MC to hear the questions first before you broadcast them aloud however, just in case they are too racy or inappropriate or just super lame. The biggest risk to this is that a guest will ask something insightful, but a little too… “inside jokey” It’ll be funny for you perhaps, but might leave the rest of your guests scratching their heads. If you do wanna go this route, keep it limited! A few questions from the crowd might be cool, but not all of them.
Make your game a bit too short vs. way too long.
Don't overstay your welcome. Nothing kills the vibe of this game then going on to long. Just because there are a million questions below, doesn't mean that you have to use them all, pick your favourites and instruct the host to call it quits with that final question, “who do you love the most?” In order to wrap it up. Typically you only want the game to run five or ten minutes. Have more questions than you need, but don't feel the pressure to use them all. Realistically, you might only ask 15-20 questions.
Shoe Game Questions
Start easy.
Start the questions off simple. That way you get a chance to warm up, the bride and groom get used to holding up the right shoe without being confused and then you can ramp up to funnier and more zany questions. Starting off with something uber specific and specialized is a mistake. Short easy ones are the way to get into a groove.
How to get more laughs.
Jab jab jab right hook. One thing that I find the most funny, and it takes a bit of skill is ordering the newlywed game questions into groupings that sort of lead you down one path, where you get a bit of a cadence of easy ones, then throw in a real tricky one. “who is the better cook?” might be a super easy one to answer, while “who has the better in-laws?” Can quickly put you in hot water!!
Choose the right host.
Choose the host carefully. You want someone with a good sense of humour, who can read the crowd and tailor questions to suit. Again, have more questions than you're going to need and choose the best. You want to dial up the intensity as things go on, and finish it on a high note. You want to make sure, that you leave the crowd wanting more rather than getting tired out and heading for the exits.
Not just shoes.
It is the shoe game, but you don't have to use shoes. You can also have your faces, printed out and put on sticks. teddy bears to represent you both, or some other indicator that is meaningful.
